Santiago de Cuba
Santiago de Cuba, Cuba
Trova on Heredia, blackout nights, forts and museums by day
This page is deliberately short. Santiago de Cuba is in the middle of an electricity emergency: the provincial power company admitted in mid-2026 that it often cannot guarantee even two hours of supply a day, and the city lost power completely for nearly 48 hours in early August 2026, so posted opening hours here are provisional and rooms genuinely do go dark mid-evening. Almost nothing in the city keeps a website, and the foreign chains that ran the big hotels handed them back to the state in mid-2026, so we could not confirm a single hotel bar or roof terrace and have left them all off. Everything listed below was checked in September 2026 and was still trading; anything we could not stand behind was cut rather than padded in. Practical notes: carry a torch, assume cash, and take a taxi late at night, because residents were reporting a run of after-dark muggings around Trocha and Gasometro at the start of September.
